Web or App? What Changes on a Phone
In a phone browser you open the site, accept the camera prompt and the call can start. With an app or a login you sign in first. 6 of the 14 browser-ready sites record both web and mobile access and no account: Nightcap, Umingle, Joingy, Thundr, Chatroulette and Who. OmeTV, Monkey, Emerald Chat, Azar and Hay record an account or login before the first call.
Omezy, OpenTalk and Bazoocam are recorded as web only, so they are not listed above. Our records say mobile access and never name iOS or Android. See video chat app for what our sources say about each platform.

Allow the camera and microphone for the site
When the browser asks, choose Allow. If you chose Block once, open the site settings from the address bar and change it, because a blocked site will not ask again.

Other video call apps and browser tabs can lock the camera. Close them and reload the page.

In your phone settings, make sure the browser or the app is allowed to use the camera and microphone.

Random Video Call FAQ
Is there a random video call app that needs no account?+
Several sites in the table record no account to start, and the Account column shows which. Our records say "mobile access" and do not name iOS or Android, so for some of them that means the phone browser. Check the site itself before you install anything.
Do I need to install an app to make a random video call?+
Not always. Nightcap says it runs in desktop and mobile browsers with nothing to install. Azar is an app and needs an app account, and OmeTV lists mobile apps and asks for an age confirmation and social login. We did not check app stores or install any app.
Why does my phone ask for camera and microphone access?+
A video call needs both. Allow them only for the site you chose, and run the webcam test first if the picture is black. You can switch the permission off again in your phone settings after the call.
Is a random video call free?+
Many records list a free start, and the Free start column shows what each one says. Some also list paid extras, such as the optional paid Boosts on Nightcap, and we have not verified free minutes for any site.
Is a random video call with a stranger safe?+
Any call with a stranger carries risk, and a declared age is not an identity check. Keep your name, school, address and social handles out of the call, use the report or block control, and leave if anyone asks for them.
